Treatment of the pain from bone metastases of prostate cancer

Preparation
Various blood tests must be done to verify the good functioning of your bone marrow.

The process
The therapy occurs in 6 sessions at 4 week intervals. It consists of the intravenous administration of the radiopharmaceutical (60-120 min).

Precautions
You can immediately go home after the treatment.
No restrictions on contact with other people.
Contraception is recommended.

Monitoring
Your oncologist will provide regular monitoring.

Main clinical indications

  • Treatment of the bone metastases from prostate cancer with radium-223 (α therapy)

Principle
The goal is the treatment of the bone metastases from prostate cancer that escape hormonal therapy. An improvement in survival has been observed. The principle is based on the uptake of a radiopharmaceutical by the bone metastases and the direct delivery of a high local dose of radiation.
